For those of you who do not know, I am going to be in China from July 7th through August 27th as an intern for the Olympics, as will be documented here (or elsewhere) textually and photographically.
How did I get here? I was born Stephen Lauer on September 13th, 1987; went to Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in Sudbury, Massachusetts; and currently attend the University of Maryland in College Park as a Business Major with a fellowship in Sports Management. Stephen "Steve" Keller, a high school friend of mine, informed me that his current school, Ithaca College, would be sending over interns to work at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing - and that there was a spot still open.
I do not know much about what I will be doing in Beijing, but I do know a few things:
1. I will be covering Handball at the Olympics, writing down quotes for the ONS (Olympic News Service).
2. I will be staying at the Beijing Sport University; Steve is my roommate.
3. To avoid the complex situation of two roommates with similar surnames, I will be taking on the pseudonym Scuba.
Lastly, our trip leader Dr. Stephen Mosher (all good things come in 3s, even Steves) has mentioned blogging as a part of our internship program, but I have no idea if it will be here or somewhere else, I'll burn that bridge when I get to it.
A special thanks to Steve, Dr. Steve, Dr. James Gray, Ithaca College, the Olympic News Service, the Beijing Olympic Committee, and the Chinese people for giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
